If you are looking for a royal house that will have the touch of contemporary style, marble or granite seems to be the obvious choice. They will give a touch of elegance and at the same time, they are extremely durable making it very useful for your house. Along with these qualities, these stones offer a wide range of colors and textures. Consequently, they are very favorable for the designers.

In fact, in recent times, the use of granite and marble in the home decoration has increased manifold. Now, people are replacing their old ceramic tiles with the granite or marble. However, there seems to be one problem – the granite slabs can make a big hole in your pocket.

Fortunately, there are suitable options that are too much aware of the budget. After all, one of the greatest adaptations of the natural stones in these days is its easy availability and that includes their affordability as well. They can go for the granite or marble tiles that are more affordable than the slabs. Basically, both of them are same; the only difference between them is that the slabs are cut from the large slabs to give it a readymade shape.

Typically, the granite slabs are derived from the boulder-like chunks quarried from the different corners of the world. After the chunks are quarried, they were sent to different plants largely in Verona, to process the chunks into polished and refined version. It is at this stage of the processing that the chunks are cut into big slabs. These slabs are later installed in the countertops.

The tiles too, undergo similar process. However, they differ from the slabs when they are cut. Instead of cutting them in larger shapes, the plants cut the polished chunks into shapes that can be readily installed in the house. Finally, they are transported to the warehouses and stores all across the globe.

The main reason why people prefer tiles to slabs is largely financial. However, the later involves a more complicated process of installation though the overall cost is less. As is discernible, the slabs are very easy to install since, it is a single piece of rock. On the other hand, the tiles should be attached together uniformly with a special type of adhesive.

Also, since the tiles are cut into pre-determined shapes, you won’t get the freedom of designs. Sometimes, problems arise when the granite need to be cut to fit into a corner. This is a very challenging task since granite is very hard stone. On the other hand, a single piece of granite slab can be cut into shape that you want. In such situations, the cuttings are done in the workshops, so you don’t have to worry about this at all. Of course, the cutting of the slabs into specific shapes and designs will loosen your pocket even more.

As you can see, no final word can be said as to what should be preferred to what. The choice solely depends on your needs and how much you can afford.
